Sunil Gulati has decided not to run for re-election as US Soccer president. The news comes after months of speculation after the US Mens National team loss to Trinidad & Tobago and the resignation of Bruce Arena.

“I spent a lot of time thinking about it and talking about it with people in many different positions — many of whom told me I should run,” Gulati said on Monday. “But in the end, I think the best thing for me personally, and for the federation, is to see someone new in the job.”

A lot of names have thrown their hat into the ring and it will certainly make for an interesting election campaign in February. Whoever does take over will be entering a period of great success for the women’s side (which must be maintained) while reshaping the mens team with a new coach and new direction. Along with that, we anticipate a lot of questions about pay-to-play sports, youth development & academies, and other soccer opportunities across the nation.
